I never knew! It should have been obvious.
There’s been a bunch of frozen bananas in the freezer for a while now (six months or more? possibly an old roommates?) that I just kept avoiding because I didn’t know what to do with them. Well, I was moved by kmouse’s smoothie from a few days ago to throw a few of them in my housemate’s Magic Bullet, along with some OJ, soymilk, agave, and vanilla. It was like an orange julius milkshake, but better.
Note the free-standing spoon.
I made another sans OJ, but with cocoa powder that was equally good. Now that I think about it the cocoa and OJ might be good together…
I just tried out my x-mas gift for the first time tonight, with great success. I made VCON’s Curried Udon Noodle Stir-Fry. I’ve yet to make seitan from scratch, but I love the curried canned stuff from the oriental market so I used that instead. I also threw in some mushrooms for good measure. I apologize beforehand for the crappy flash photography, it was dark out!
Udon noodles and my new bamboo chopsticks.
A curry roux.
“One of these things just doesn’t belong here…”
The wok in full effect.
It was dang good, I had seconds.
I painted my bike this weekend!
I’m pretty stoked on how it turned out. I just cut out a few different stencils and sprayed three different colors.
My mileage for this week:
Total for ’09: 213.5
So here’s my first weeks tally:
During the week everything was pretty much school or work-related, with a couple rides just for fun. Then on Sunday I rode up to Atascadero and hung out for a bit. You get to go through this sweet tunnel under the freeway at the bottom of the grade.
Riding up and at the top. It was windy as all hell.
I was stoked to ride down 41 for the first time to the ocean. It was a pretty sweet cruise, all downhill from about 1,500 feet.
I got on the road about 9:00 this morning to ride back to SLO and it was even windier than yesterday. I almost got blown off the road once.. Then I start to hear a funny noise and sure enough a few miles past Morro Bay my chain totally busts. But it worked out as I was able to hitch a ride into town pretty quickly quick in the back of this nice older lady’s truck, which was really fun and illegal but it was her idea.
So week one is a grand total of 107 miles!
I was hoping I would get about 100 a week to keep it interesting. I hope this wind doesn’t stick around much longer though.
I made my first green smoothie today, compliments of my housemate’s new Magic Bullet.
That is blueberries, a banana, spinach, a tangerine, agave nectar, and water.
“Where’s the algae?!”
Total for ’09 37.4 miles
Bike ride to Cayucos and back.. I need to remember to take some pics next time. What good is a blog with no pics!? All-in-all a pretty successful winter vacation, not to mention the ride down to Huntington.
So I’m going to keep track of all the miles I ride this year, even little stuff like daily trips to school and the grocery store. I’ll also be posting stuff about food, again hopefully with pics if I can get that figured out. Also expect other rants and things I need to get off my chest.
